Which of the 4 teams do you think will go the furthest in the CL ? I'm going with Inter who usually choke but this time I think they'll actually do some damage with Motta, Eto, Millito and Sneijder on the team. Although the first match tommorow against Barca is going to be tough. Eto and Ibra vs. their former sides.

AC usually does well in the CL but their team has had a nightmare start in Serie A so I can't see them going very far. Livorno dominated the first half on the weekend when they played .. and if they're having problems with Livorno I can't imagine they'll do much against a top tier team in CL.

Juve has made a big jump in quality since they signed diego and they still have one of the best defenses in Serie A .. not to mention made up 7 of the 11 players fielded against Bulgaria in the WC qualifying.

Fiorentina - i have no confidence in .. unless Mutu gets better.

I think Inter should do best of all the italian teams. yes they usually choke when it comes to CL but i think thats why moratti brought mourinho so that he can carry this team far in CL. Unfortunately what I would consider our best italy team is up against barcelona who I'd say is the top spanish team even though they didn't spend a fortune on two players like Real did in the summer. I think this game is going to be one of the best in the whole tournament.

So for a wrap of todays games:

Juve 1-1 Bordeaux
AC Milan - 2 - 1 Marseille

I still don't think juve is a force to be reckoned with like they used to be. milan looked like they struggled today even though they won the game and i'm sorry but fiorentina is lucky to make it passed the group stage.

Tommorow's games:

Inter vs Barcelona
Fiorentina vs. lyon

I have a feeling Inter/Barca will tie tommorow and lyon will win.

I just finished reading an interesting article from Football Italia.  AC Milan Vice-Prez Adriano Galliani  voiced his concern regarding the role of Italian teams in the Europa League.

He fears that Italian teams are not delivering the quality that Italian soccer teams are known for.

“We need to play not just for ourselves in Europe but also for Italian football.'

“It is my intention to propose to the Lega Calcio that they make an economic contribution to those clubs who get points in the Europa League.

“It's useless to pretend nothing happened, putting your head in the sand like ostriches. This is a problem that has to be faced,” Galliani said.

I agree on this matter. I have to admit that I was not impressed with last season either.  I didn't see much difference in this seasons opening games.  I really hope we'll see some turnaround.

what do you think?

I think italian soccer has taken a nose dive. I think the EPL now dominates being backed by heavy international investers. A lot of italian teams are in the red despite making big moves. Inter and Juve have made big moves over the summer while teams like ac milan, roma, lazio, fiorentina haven't. But even though the italian league has taken a hit financially it levels off the competition making it more fair in my eyes. In the EPL you usually have the same 4 teams dominating the league whereas the italian league is less predictable which makes it more exciting. La Liga however has really two teams that dominate .. i mean how often will you see any other team overtake barca or real madrid ? Even though the italian league is made up of international talent .. it seems to run parallel with the national team. I think neither the italian teams in the CL or the italian national team pose the same threat they used to.

Personally, I feel that Italian football is in a much more healthy state than it was in 2006, post calciopoli. Virtually all the big clubs are back in the league and some spending well. Napoli, Palermo, Genoa all made very astute buys this summer and make the league far more competitive as a whole.

Of course its not been a great start in Europe, but its certainly not a fatal. One. Milans win in Marseille was very good, and along with Inter and Juve should at the absolute bare minimum make the second round. It will depend on the draw, but I feel at least one will go deep in the tournement this year, maybe two.

I think it will be better than last year, and the Uefa cup contingent will pick up points and all make it through I feel. Lazio and Roma were just slack midweek, thats how I see it. As for Genoa, I wouldnt be suprised if they beat Valencia, who I think they face next, such is the depth and quality of their team.
